The Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce
Small Business Advisory Council presents its quarterly CEO Connection. This program features, President & CEO of Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Larry Coomes.
Born and raised in Chicago, Larry earned his undergraduate degree in business from Eastern Illinois University in 1990. Upon graduation, he moved to Atlanta to embark on his first career in the automotive industry. He spent seven years at Ford Motor Company progressing through several management positions, followed by four years at the U.S. Headquarters of Porsche where he held the position of National Director of Franchising and Business Development. In this position, he shaped the expansion of the Porsche dealer network in anticipation of the launch of the Cayenee, Porsche’s entrée into the SUV market. He also developed and launched the Porsche dealership facility design, now a centerpiece of their globally recognized brand. In search of a new career, Larry left Porsche in 2001 to earn his MBA at Duke University and, upon graduation, joined Tenet as an Associate in the Future CEO Program.
Larry’s first assignment with Tenet was with the Commitment to Quality Team (C2Q) where he worked in the Southeast Region and then as the Regional Team Leader for the C2Q Team of Tenet Florida. In 2005, he was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer at West Boca Medical Center in Boca Raton, Florida, where he successfully managed more than $25MM in major capital investments and construction projects. Larry left Tenet in early 2011 to accept a CEO position with Universal Health Services in Seattle, Washington; however, when given the opportunity to return to Tenet as the CEO of Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, he jumped at the chance to return to the Sunshine State, where the majority of his family and friends reside.
Larry and his wife, Shannon, a cardiac nurse by training, now reside in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with their seven year-old son, Lawson. The entire family is thrilled to be back with Tenet in Florida and are enjoying the new hospital and community, as well as the sunshine, palm trees, seafood, and golf.
