Speaker: Michael Reed, Smith Reed Partners

Bio: Michael Reed is a Series 79-licensed investment banker and M&A advisor specializing in wealth management and financial advisory transactions. As a Partner & Managing Director, he advises on mergers and acquisitions, raises capital for growing firms, and consults with financial services companies on strategic growth initiatives.
Michael’s track record combines entrepreneurial success with institutional-scale execution. As co-founder and leader of a wealth management firm, he orchestrated its transformation from startup to $2.5 billion in assets under management within five years. Through strategic oversight of 16 transactions, including the creation of two registered investment advisor subsidiaries and a tax services entity, he drove a 12-fold increase in enterprise value while scaling operations to 65 employees across 14 nationwide offices.
Michael earned an international reputation in perioperative spine care while pioneering concierge healthcare services. In 2011, his firm was acquired by the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), marking their first acquisition in 150 years. As Director of HSS Florida, he collaborated with the executive team to establish the hospital’s Southeast footprint, further honing his expertise in strategic planning and operational excellence.
Michael’s executive experience with HSS and then at the North American Spine Foundation as Executive Director advanced his leadership roles at companies that generated over $4 billion in annual revenue and $159 million in net profit. His influence in the industry has been recognized at the highest levels, including securing a bi-partisan congressional resolution from the United States Congress.
Michael holds a doctorate in operational management, an MBA from Boston University, five advanced certifications in M&A advisory and post-transaction integration, and an executive certificate from Yale School of Management. His combination of academic rigor, investment banking expertise, proven operational leadership, and deep understanding of wealth management business models positions him as a trusted advisor to financial services firms navigating complex transactions and growth strategies.
