Job Description:
The full-time Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the facilities staff to ensure the effective upkeep, repair, and safety of facilities, equipment, and systems. This role involves planning, assigning, and monitoring maintenance tasks; ensuring compliance with safety regulations; coordinating with other departments; and managing facilities staff. The supervisor is responsible for preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting issues, maintaining records, and ensuring that all work is performed efficiently and to high standards. Strong leadership, technical knowledge, and problem-solving skills are essential in this role.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the Utilities Operators that maintain the buildings' and chillers, auxiliary equipment, compressed air, vacuum, and water systems.
- Oversee and ensure the employees’ compliance with all applicable safety regulations, Lockout/Tagout, building codes, and safety requirements.
- Ensure completion of maintenance and repair jobs in accordance with established standards.
- Ensure constant communication with Operations regarding all maintenance activities, status updates, anticipated return to service, and unit availability.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager for best practices of the preventative maintenance program on services of pumps, cooling towers, chiller units, compressors, pneumatic control systems, and related equipment.
- Coordinate and maintain reports and send all updated preventive maintenance records to the appropriate correspondents.
- Manage all employees’ time and activities.
- Complete work requests in a timely manner using a computerized system (Micro Main).
- Manage vendor activities to ensure work is completed in accordance with University of Florida (UF) standards through follow-up inspections, commissioning, and proper documentation.
- Keep up-to-date records, manuals, and drawings for the chiller systems.
- Direct and coordinate the layout, estimating, scheduling, and accomplishment of jobs with other maintenance departments.
- Order parts and supplies in support of the campus buildings' maintenance and utilities chilled water and steam activities while assuring all work orders are charged correctly.
- Ensure direct reports are properly equipped with safety apparel and shop stock to be effective and efficient in the field.
- Perform daily inspections and provide on-the-job training to facilities staff to ensure quality and to maximize productivity.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills through hands-on training and education within the facilities group.
- Complete UF Engaged for direct reports to assist with the employees’ continual professional growth.
- Ensure that Work Management and all applicable managers are aware of projects and outages taking place and project statuses.
- Update the Facilities Director and Maintenance Manager on the progress of all work performed.
- Attend scheduled meetings and prepare presentations as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and assume additional duties in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
$53,000 - $86,000; Commensurate with experience.

Preferred:
- Previous experience working in a research, hospital, or university setting is preferred.
- Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational maintenance program and 5-7 years in facilities repair and maintenance.
- Previous experience with plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and/or welding experience is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills, and the ability to evaluate mechanical and electrical systems.
- Must have a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the position is located.
